The Dishonest Media

Reporting on a world gone mad by a world gone mad.

In a perfect world, the media presents the facts and relays to us this information in an informative and objective stance.

I said a "perfect world".

The problem with the media is it is at the whim of the opinions and beliefs of those who report, control and conflate ideas, opinions and facts.

It is this conflation of facts and beliefs that gives us the modern media we see before us today.

Dishonest Media Blocks Informed Consent

In a society that is free and able to make educated decisions, we need the facts and we need them delivered objectively, unfortunately finding facts is the usual needle in the haystack routine.

News shows are often little more than personal opinion pieces parading as hard hitting "truth bullets" and the nightly news reports are guilty of spreading so much misinformation that if misreporting were a crime, the jails would be full to the brim.

Of course this isn't to say that the facts don't often get through, but so often these facts are corrupted by the dishonest media before they see the light of day

The Media Distorts The Truth

In an episode of Dateline on the NBC network, the "news" show attempts to uncover a faulty series of GM trucks by claiming the gas tanks were poorly constructed and dangerous. This episode of dateline then shows one of the trucks exploding from the gas tank.

Hard hitting expose?

It turned out that the tank was exploded via the rockets the NBC consultants had set off under the truck.

If it wasn't so dangerous a stunt it would almost be funny, were it not a beacon to highlight the clear and present danger of the media.

The Media - Chicken Little's Best Pal

Scare factors sell papers.

Disasters gets views.

The sky is falling - Everyone listens.

It's no great secret that scaremongering is rife in the mainstream media. It sells! The danger is that misinformation spreads like wildfire and this is so frequently the result of the scare tactics that the media use to hock their wares.

The problem of course with the fact that alarming the public is good for business, is that if a story is potentially alarming, then it has a good chance of being run with - Whether it has a bucket of truth or a weather ravaged kernel of honesty, the chances are it gets the go ahead.

This gives us a veritable orgy of misinformation as barely legitimate sources and unproven facts get paraded as newsworthy factoids.

This is a problem for those who believe in freedom.

Factual Information - The Key To Informed Choice

The truth is, the modern mainstream media has blurred facts and opinion pieces into one big subjective, obscure and fairly obtuse monstrosity. We need facts, we need honest media with integrity to gives us the information and let us process it as we see fit.

However, like a processed piece of nutritionally-devoid white bread, the goodness is long stripped and discarded before it ever sees the light of day.

Objective, critical thinking is an essential element in society today; especially for those of you who want to live a life of informed choice and wish to take the "red pill" so to speak.

There are media watch type shows that expose media lies and dishonesty, but they barely impact the damage done by these lies and for every time they expose a lie, two more take it's place.

Beware - Be Aware - It's Only Your Freedom At Stake

If you don't realize how dangerous incorrect reporting can be then imagine having family in Jenin when CNN reported that guns ships were throwing missiles at a containment of 15000 people.

If you had family and worried they were likely killed, you'd be rightfully anxious after that report, however the wash up was that a total of 56 people were killed in total including 23 soldiers.

Scaremongering the crap out of people would have had people in hysterical fear.

Welcome to the attack on your freedom.

As a society of intelligent individuals, we must demand more of our media. We must eschew the use of opinion in shows the purport to be news as an absolute. Such conflations destroy the integrity of the truth as we know it.

To view all media, we must remain skeptical and vigilant to the way the present information and we must teach our children to do the same.

Understanding the power of the media, lets you be aware of their potential to deceive.

The Future Of Freedom - Low Media Standards

The ways in which media can affect society are huge and too many to address in one post. Our view of the world around us is so heavily dependent on the media we ingest, that it's omnipresent control over social understanding can never be underestimated and must be recognized thusly in order to be free of it's potential morphing of reality.

In Conclusion

Hold media to the highest accountability and remaining skeptical of both reporting and intentions is a step towards a freer civilization and a less corruptible social consciousness.

If you want honesty in society, demand honesty and accept it's impact, but respect it's freedom.
