Facts About Saturated Fats
Whether or not you want to stay healthy or not, it's always a good idea to have some information about the foods we stick in our body.
You may wish you knew about saturated fats sooner, rather than later, but that's okay, because we can help you to catch up with a little info-cramming right now, but don't worry, It's an easy read.
I promise.
Saturated fat is one of the two main kinds of fatty acids that can be found in food items.
Unhealthy fats are classified as the undesirable fats - the varieties that boost blood cholesterol levels and trigger cardiac arrest
We don't want high cholesterol do we?
That would be a definite not!
Where Are They?
Saturated fats are normally found generally in beef, chicken, butter, dairy and coconut, palm and palm kernel fats. They are found in lard, pork, and many other meat products. Saturates are natural occurring fats such as found in flax seeds whereas Trans fats are completely unnatural. However naturally occurring plant sources, usually are full of good fats.
Whilst they are not as deadly as trans fats, they are to be avoided still.
Excessive consumption in a high calorie diet of saturated fats leads to weight gain, in particular; fat gain.
This excess fat is stored faster than other macronutrients such as protein and carbohydrates.
What Do They Look Like?
Saturated fats are generally quite solid at room temperature and they come from either animal or vegetable sources.
Saturated fats are bad because they are thick and have a tendency to heap with each others, creating difficulties for cellular overall health.
Sticky and gluggy, these saturates build up in your system and are not ideal for optimal health.
We want optimal health don't we?
Be Alert But Not Alarmed
Most foods contain a mix of unsaturated fats and saturate ones. So don't become stressed in the process of avoiding them, in fact most really healthy oils and fats contain a small/medium amount of saturates.
It's okay, because good fats help to balance out the effect of the bad ones.
So concentrate on consuming more olive oils, avocado and flax seeds.
If you do, you'll most likely have enough good cholesterol to balance out the bad.
I wrote an article on the difference between good fats and bad fats if you care to read it called what are good fats - What are bad fats that will help you find out about the best good fats, which your probably going to want sooner than later.
Eat Right And You'll Feel Right
It's widely held knowledge now that the health you have will mirror quite closely the diet you consume.

Diets high in fiber can help reduce cholesterol and keep your insides healthy. Maintain good health by eating a wide array of fruit, vegetables and lean meat and lean dairy.
Keep your saturates low, but make sure you eat plenty of good fats such as omega 3 and omega 6.
One of the biggest mistakes people make is to cut fat out and in the process they don't discriminate between the good fats and the bad ones.
Keep olive oil, seeds and nuts, plus oily fish such as salmon and tuna, but try to steer clear of cream, butter and meat and chicken fat.
Lean meats are great.
Probably the most interesting fact about saturated fat is that it is the easiest type of food for your body to store as body fat and assuming you eat it with carbs and protein, your body will use the carbs for fuel, the protein for repair and the fat for .......
.....You guessed it - Fat storage. A little safety deposit for the cold months ahead, so be aware.
It's your body and your health, so the responsibility lies with you.
