Thinking critically is the using of cognitive skills or strategies that enhance the likelihood of a suitable end result i.e scuba diving.
You have to have a mindset that questions results.
Thinking critically is having a questioning attitude and the skills to know which questions to ask. Critical thinking can be made into a fun learning process given the right attitude and determination to really learn.

Critical thinking is careful and strategic conviction of whether to acknowledge, reject, or suspend a verdict. It is purposeful, directed thought.
Don't be duped by fine sounding arguments. Critique information and filter out the lies.
There are many people out there with opinions, but with out some rational way to deduce the truth, many people just accept opinion as fact.

Assumptions can be the fall down point in reaching a logical conclusion, as we often find variances and facts that go against the lazy assumptions we make.
Thinking Critically is done when one reads or reacts from at least four perspectives - epistemological, one's experiences, one's communications, and politics. Thinking Critically is rightly regarded as a fundamental educational ideal, because to learn the absolute truth you need to be deductive in the nature of the way you think.

Education is a net benefit, as long as the information is factual and not subjective. A lot of subjects in the educational process have become completely subjective.
