The The Most Unhealthy Food idea is designed to let you know what foods are to be avoided at all costs.
In these modern times, most people have a reasonable knowledge of what they should be eating and what "really" constitutes unhealthy food.
I'm going to show you the 10 foods that should be avoided at all cost and at worst, only consumed on rare occasions. At least if you know that the world's worst food is you can have a fighting chance.
So, lets get straight into it:
Salt
Ordinary, common table salt is on of the worlds worst foods list for good reason. Salt dehydrates you, causes electrolyte imbalance, poor circulatory health and can seriously affect your blood pressure.
The best way to eliminate salt is to use more herbs and spices in cooking or at least use a potassium based salt substitute. Beware of sea salt or herbal salt, because these tend to be no different to common table salt.
Cream
The cream derived from cow's milk can often contain 35-60% fat and much of this fat is unhealthy saturated fat. Saturated fat stores easy in the body and excess body fat can contribute to many diseases including diabetes. Drink low or no fat milk and keep cream of the menu until a special occasion.
Substitute cream with evaporated skim milk.
Palm Oil
Most of us are told that vegetable oils don't contain saturated fats like animal products do, however the exceptions are coconut oil and palm oil.
Palm oil is often sold as vegetable oil, so be discerning when reading labels and make sure you avoid oils that don't "fess up" their entire ingredients.
Instead of palm oil, use olive oil or grapeseed oil.
Sugar
Well, let's face it you know this don't you? - But do you pay attention to labels for hidden sugar. Don't be fooled by juices posing as fruit drink or by low fat yogurts that cram themselves with sugar.
You have to be a label conscious consumer and do your homework. Look for 100% pure juice drinks and low fat - no sugar added yogurts.
Bad carbohydrates don't get much worse than sugar
Soda Drinks
A lot of unnecessary sugar is consumed in the form of fizzy soda drinks. Soda can create indigestion, excessive carbon dioxide intake, tooth enamel softening and hyperglycemia.
If you really want to drink some soda then at least go for diet brands and you'll save around 2 tablespoons of sugar per glass.
Butter
Butter and cream are not quite one and the same, because after the refining process butter loses protein and water to become a more dense fattier source of saturated fats. Substitute butter with low salt, low saturated fat margarine. Be wary of Margarine made out of palm oil though.
White Flour
White flour is almost as bad as sugar, however most people still eat white bread and white pasta based on the old school food pyramid that said that was they best way to eat. White flour is devoid of the nutrients and fiber that it's richer whole wheat counter part still contains.
For the absolute best substitutes use whole grain bread and brown pasta or fiber enriched pasta (my favorite).
White flour isn't the only white culprit, it's worth mentioning white potatoes - when processed are as bad as white flour, so avoid instant mashed potatoes or canned spuds.
Potato Chips
You know fast food is bad and you know why fast food is bad. Snacks and junk food are dangerous and it doesn't get any worse than potato chips
If one product could contain 3 of the worlds worst foods you would say this is it. Processed potato, palm oil(often) and salt make potato chips a tasty trap for the uninitiated. If you really love your chips then look for the olive oil type, low salt and sweet potato chips.
Punch/Syrup/Cordial
These are usually always just sugar based drinks, but there are many sugar free syrups available for you to enjoy, so skip on the candy water.
Sausages
Your average sausage is packed with saturated fat, white flour, salt and preservatives, along with whatever else they throw in.
Possibly the most dangerous of the worlds worst foods, sausages very rarely get mentioned, so it is a good time to mention them now. Try to use low fat, pure meat sausages and you'll avoid all of that nasty saturated fat.
Worthy of note
Trans fats, depending on what country you are in, are starting to get phased out. Many countries are making trans fats illegal, so it should not be a problem for long.
In Conclusion
Just because you may like all the foods on this lists doesn't mean you have to start worrying too much. Moderation is the key, if you really love potato chips then have some once a week, just don't make it a daily habit.
You can have all of these things once a week if you like, just be sure too eat good quality food the rest of the time. Make these foods the exception not the rule.
