Hubpage's Nofollow Rules

If your worried because you've heard about the oddities of Hubpages unusual nofollow and dofollow rules then it's understandable. You need to be fully aware of what happens and because Hubpages seems to lack the sense to commit to full disclosure, then perhaps I can let you know how their policy works.

The problem with Hubpage's ambiguity over their dofollow policy, is that unless you hunt, you can't find it, otherwise why would you be here on another site trying to find out there rules. It's poor on their behalf.

Ok, so where to start?

Your Hub Rating

The score you have or you "profile" score has to be 75 or above. This means if it drops to 74, all of your links become nofollow. So the ideas behind this is they want you to continuously update the hubs and add new content, but barely anybody has the time, nor the wherewithal to go back to all their hubs and add even more content. Because of this, most hubs will slip under the 75 rating.

Hubpages Dofollow Rules

This means you wont get a dofollow link for almost all of your hubs, but hubpages will have content and revenue from the advertising. It seems that you might want to seriously consider writing your articles elsewhere like ezine articles, where the page ranks is stronger and once you write the article there is no looking over your back to worry about odd rules.

The problem I have is that most people think hubpages is dofollow and they keep adding content under the assumption that they are gaining quality backlinks to there site, but if nofollow and dofollow didn't matter, you could bet your bottom dollar, there'd be no policy like the one they impose.

It's deceptive because at no stage during the sign up process do they disclose their nofollow policy, why? Because they know full well that many people would not bother.

The other policy

There is a policy that says if you add 2 links to the same address on a given page then those links will become nofollow.

So if you write a 5000 word mega hub that takes 3 hours and tons of mental juice, they wont reward you with link juice. That poor by anyone's standards.

So one link is fine but 2 means nofollow territory. I wouldn't bother with giant hubs, rather I'd make a giant lens at squidoo and get a couple of good dofollow backlinks for the trouble.

I had an excellent hub that I had built links to and really tended to, but because I had 2 backlinks pointing to my main site, It was nofollowed. What a waste of time.

To Conclude

Hopefully now that you know their policies you can decide for yourself whether you want to add much content there and have to spend week after week adding a sentence here and there, just to keep a measly backlink, or you could just add your articles to ezine articles or buzzle, who have just as much Google respect and you wont have to spend you valuable time working on old articles ever again.
