Overcoming adversity is not supposed to be easy - In fact any valuable lessons we learn in life come at a significant cost, however there is always a hard way and an easier way so with the right mindset and the best information, adverse situations can be dealt with in a way that minimizes the impact on your day to day living.

The right system and the best attitude can completely change the way you look at adversity and how you will deal with adverse situations in the future.

Every single person on our humble planet will at some stage in their lives come face to face with a significant form of adversity and for many of us it will happen with eclectic regularity.

Some things are indeed life shattering events, while others a obstacles which we can deal with and move through with relative ease.

Some large events can require tremendous levels of love and support to cope through, while lesser types of adversity can be seen as our own personal challenge to build our individual strength.

You've probably observed that some people can deal with regular adversity a lot better than others. Whilst those people are lucky, we do have ways in which we can help ourselves through times of adversity.

Coping With Death

The significant loss of a loved one is unbearable thought and yet for thousands of years, every single human being has had to face this life changing challenge in some capacity. Granted it is never an easy time, the fact that there will always be be someone in your same position is helpful and the most important thing you can do is surround yourself with family and friends.

Coping with death is the most extreme circumstance a person can ever be involved in so we must be careful not to be flippant, but at the same time show encouragement that the future can once again be bright and happiness will return.

Losing a loved one is devastating and at the time of the loss life can seem very ambiguous with values be questioned and the future seeming bleak. Time and the comfort of others is the major factor in coping with loss. Finding people in very similar situations is an extremely helpful support mechanism to help you through.

Hearing that others have dealt with what you have can slightly ease the ostracism and pain you feel, helping you cope with the overwhelming feelings that will envelope you.

Trying to deal with loss by yourself is never the answer, surround yourself by caring, comforting people and let them help you to heal. If you feel lonely find a support network in the phone book or online and get the help you need - No one expects you to do it alone.

Unexpected Obstacles

Bad days come and go, then every now and then we get a series of unfortunate events that seem to leave happiness as a long distant memory. this inevitability is part of life and although some will have worse hardships than others, it is all relative.

There is always the method of trying to avoid adversity by prevention, but often those who plan to not have adversity affect them are the ones hardest hit because it's a foreign situation as opposed to those who are more used to tough times and have learned to cope throughout.

Positive thinking is such a buzzword that I'm loathe to use it, but as cliched as it may sound, what are the alternatives? Negative thinking?

Being positive and being surrounded by positivity is one of the best ways to cope with adverse changes in lifestyle. One thing I see is a lot of people who have friends and family, coping better than those who are far more socially ostracized.

Sometimes some people don't have that network of caring and close people and it further adds to the pain, but it is important to use the resource you have at hand. Just talking to someone can make an immediate improvement in the ability to cope.

There a many help lines as a last resort for those who need someone to talk to and they are a truly benevolent service. I know that many people could have benefited much from these services if they only knew, or were aware of their existence.

In Conclusion

Adversity is the part of life that both hurts us and makes us stronger, although the strength comes through time. The pain of lose, or conflict and what ever the adversity is, can take a long time to subside into a more manageable, smaller pain. But it always does.

It would be flippant to say that time heals all wounds as a panacea to all pains, but the support of love, and the experience of time usually helps to overcome adversity. I hope your inner strength will guide you to the outcome you desire.
